I really hope Liam stays. He is an absolute rock at the back and a natural leader, holding the team together in many ways. We would be missing more than a player if he went. My disappointment would not just be proportionate to the player we are losing but also because I really thought he believed in the project and wouldn't just be off for extra bunce. Barnet are in freefall, I can't believe they've got a better future over the next few years than us, and it is soul destroying to play for a team that loses most weeks.
I hope he stays, for whatever reason, and his focuses returns.

Echo the thoughts above. Daly has been a class act and a good leader for us.
I understand the lure of bigger money at Barnet. However, that'll be a good extra hour each way from Birmingham each day I reckon. Also, they're going to be a in a relegation battle, and possibly go down. Is that what he wants at 33? Or he can stay with us and fight to get promoted and hopefully win the league. He can lift the the National League North trophy potentially.
I hope he stays.

Reading the Barnet forum they hope he will be at the club by the week end but also say they are skint and a season or two in the NLS to rebuild and regroup is the way forward?
Matching AP's justified valuation could well be the main issue he may be 33 but is one of the best CB in the NLN ando is a leader that's why Flowers wants him so will cost appropriately.
I cant see the pleasure in travelling from Birmingham for possible NLS either - think about that Liam. ..

Agree, important for me is the fact he was here last season, he played at Evesham and knows the shite we’ve been through more than most. The Barnet wage may be more this season but (if they are bright) will more than likely include a relegation wage drop, maybe they incentivise avoiding the drop and Flowers is a good salesman. I think the pride of being a senior pro in him would carry on his high standards for us if the move didn’t happen. Would like to think the same of Mad Gav too.

I really like Gunning - he's a class act on the field.
Let's hope he's a class act off it as well

The important thing that AP's doing is driving a hard bargain so the so called bigger clubs don't think they can roll us over for peanuts!
Both Chesterfield and Barnet are where they are for a reason overspending and underperforming.

I get the impression from Paul Groves that as a player he was someone who his team mates looked up to and he led by example. He will understand the value of recruiting players who have the right character, not just the right footballing ability.

Agree wholeheartedly

What people need to understand in all of this is ... common sense and simple maths ... lets say the player is on a round number wage ... say £100 a week ... and the talks go on for say 3 weeks ... that's £300 all agreed, plus PAYE and costs ... so say £350 for round number ... non league fees aren't very often big ... and clubs and players ... this will shock the world, find grey in black and white. So the recent left back that was sold for £25k .... which was stated by one club as £25k and the other as an undisclosed fee. Do I think it was a lump of cash for £25k ... no chance ... but it is a lie ... no ... as say the fee was £10k and the wages was £15k ... then one club is playing a media game the other is keeping it under wraps ... I can't be bothered with games ... so I always say "undisclosed fee" unless a cast iron fee is agreed and paid. When we sold a player recently we could say £35k ... but was that a lump sum in pound notes ... no ... that was much smaller ... back to my point ... say you agree a fee of £2-5k which is normal at our level, it doesn't take may weeks for a players wages, when they aren't playing ... to overtake the fee ... or make the deal pointless. And not many players being sold period mid season are earning £100 a week.
Think of it like this .... would you drive 500miles to buy a car to save £150 ... heart over mind is hard to control and I would love to fight back more ... but ... the best deal is the deal on the table, not always the hard ball line of 'sit in the stands and wait' ... we aren't Man City ... we cannot afford to ice out players all the time ... and going legal costs money and time ... and without a grant yet agreed for January and the risk of the league getting null and voided ... I have to manage everything ... which is hard ... as the bigger picture is don't go bust, don't go down, let's have a right go!
On the point of ... those coming in, need to be better then the ones that left ... hard work beats talent ... and i'd rather a team that wanted to be hear and fight for the club.
Let's see what happens ...

Very honest and sensible stuff.
Excited to see who is coming in. There are some quality and hungry players out there at this level and below even.
