Update 23/8 - Neil - 23-08-2020

So clubs wanting to be considered "elite" so we could have playoffs is what is now holding us back from having crowds!

As usual, the 'not as big as they think they are' clubs at our level, want to have it both ways - play-offs and fans - didn't they realise it was one or the other? Angry
They have done no favours for anyone in the NLN & NLS, particularly the fans and the club owners - I foresee many clubs not being able to complete this season if there are going to be very few spectators allowed and no visiting fans.

On the positive side - another good weeks progress with the stadium. Well done to all involved.

RE: Update 23/8 - Darran - 23-08-2020

To be fair given we don't have a home game for a month it doesn't really affect us anyway especially as the league have said all along it wont start unless crowds are allowed back. Dorking reckon that the elite tag was just so football could be played at that time, but things have changed now so it is wrong for the National League not to be allowed fans in. The thing is the National League is pretty much all pro now and there is very little difference between it and League 2 so it does make it tricky for the DCMS and the FA. Apparently we might here something tomorrow or Tuesday.

Be nice to see the old turnstiles again and good to see them being used.

Another positive update. Training at Cirencester is a nice touch. I think Scott Griffin is secretary there so we have a good link.

New Meadow Park is looking great!!! Pitch looks fantastic, like a Snooker Table surface. I like how there are parts of the old Meadow Park around the ground. The Clubhouse building, the old T-End terrace steps alongside one of the new car parks, and the old turnstiles are being used.

All the sides in the play-offs wanted them and that includes Dorking. If we had been in the play-offs no doubt we would have wanted them to happen. Once it was decided that the champions would go up you had to promote another side especially as the National League had to promote 2 teams to League 2. As much as covering teams as big as Notts County and as small as Hungerford is tricky it also means we all get put in the same box. Also if the FA are forced into the same rules as Steps 3-6 then the big clubs are going to be the ones shafted over as at our level the max capacity would be 900 at 30%. The start of October is a long way away still so who knows what the situation will look like by then. Away fans are obviously allowed so far, but it could be an issue higher up the leagues and also if a club is likely to get enough fans to reach capacity. Take York for example it is hard to see them being able to have away fans unless the league says they have to reserve tickets for away fans.

RE: Update 23/8 - Si Robin - 23-08-2020

I have to say, I'm amazed I've not heard any whispers of stadium sponsorship, especially given how much money Alex has put into building it.

I know a lot of fans are against that sort of thing, but it really has no impact. I think Whaddon Road is currently under it's 4th stadium name (ABS Stadium, World of Smile, LCI Rail and Johnny Rocks) and everyone I know still simply calls it Whaddon Road - which was never it's official name anyway. It was the Victory Ground.

I know finding a sponsor in these times isn't easy, but it could be a simple way of recuperating some of what's been paid out.
