RE: NLN Watch - SHANDY LOVE MACHINE - 22-05-2022

Didn't we smash Dorking 3-0 at their gaffe in the FA Cup about 6 or so years ago?

Yep nearer 3 years ago we beat them after a 3-3 draw at Evesham. Then we appointed Chris Todd. In retrospect that was a pretty decent result as Dorking won the Isthmian League by over 20 points that season.

RE: NLN Watch - sctippins - 23-05-2022

I’ve been following the Dorking story for a few months now and am currently making my way through “Dorking : Uncovered” by the YouTube channel “Bunch of Amateurs”. Gives a great insight into the playing side of the game at this level. I think quite a lot of the production cost maybe paid by Marc White who seems to feature in 80% of the time on camera including being mic’d up every game.

Fair play to him but I am concerned for him as well. When I’m watching the episodes I feel sometimes like he oversteps the mark (ref: episode when he welcomes the ladies team on board or constant berating of the officials) and sometimes comes across tactically a bit short but he has a rather large back room who I’m sure coach and develop the team. At some point though feel he will need to give up the manager gig especially if he gets in a relegation dog fight and then will he start to fall out of love with the game?

There are five players (maybe a couple more as well, on episode 11 there are 20 something of them) who feature heavily in the shows Bobby-Joe Taylor, Ed Harris, Jimmy Mufit, Max Briggs and Alfie Rutherford who look quality and seem to be playing maybe a league or two lower than they have or perhaps can who I’m sure are looked after well financially, despite reassurances from MW that they are only a part time team in a league with half the teams are full time. They do have a lot of players on the books so guessing even if they are paid as part timers, the wage budget probably bigger than some of those full time teams.

Rutherford has a heart condition & was advised to give up the sport by the FA & Pompey as a teenager. Muitt was at Brighton as a kid & ruined his knee. Briggs works as a senior Roborace engineer & I imagine earns more than he would as a full timer. I’m sure MW looks after them all too, but hopefully as we will find out this coming season, lots of good players don’t want to be full time at this level.

Jason Prior's who's been a goal machine at Bognor, Havant and now Dorking is another one who has a non football career.

Jamie Vermiglio has left Chorley to take over as manager of league newcomers Buxton.

Im sure I read in the NLP that the Buxton manager was not local and despite promotion could not put the hours in required as he was travelling along way.

True story. Travelling from Burnley.
Vermiglio is a headteacher of a primary school in Warrington so is likely to be a bit closer, pain in the arse when Snake Pass is closed though.

Tom Owen-Evans has signed for Kiddy, massive signing for them and a massive loss for Hereford
