RE: NLN Watch - Darran - 07-09-2022

Also whilst it was right for Young and Mensah to be moved on, look at how well they are doing at their new clubs. Granted Mensah is in the league below, but he's clearly putting in more effort than he was for us last season. Mansell clearly failed to get the best out of them.

I hate getting involved in the back and forth on the forum….

You can look at statistics all day long. Remember when Lee Mansell joined us it took a while to get started, we couldn’t win and end of last season we had 5 loanees playing every game and at times struggled to put out an XI of senior players. Look I’m not saying he is the next Pep but sometimes be careful what you wish for…. It’s too early for shouts of his head.

Top 7 of budgets - fair enough if that’s the info you’ve got but it’s certainly not top 3. Plus as much as we would like to admit it’s not going to be many players top destination to come too. As I’ve said before how much of that cap has gone on our top earning players who joined before LM and are signed to the end of the season - Matt McClure, Kevin Dawson, Tommy O’Sullivan & Ben Nugent.

I would agree though our two best players are Kevin Dawson - we miss him so bad at the moment and Matt McClure both signed by James Rowe but again at what cost?

As for Jordan Young & Bernard Mensah - Young left us pretty much within first few weeks Manse came in - isn’t he a Swindon based lad anyway - no fee involved so maybe didn’t like the club or wanted to go part time. We don’t know behind the scenes what was going on with Mensah, he was constantly injured and when he came on or started (admittedly out of position) didn’t look like the player he had been previously. Redditch might be his level at the moment till he builds back up his confidence but for the amount he was rumoured to be earning a week there was a big expectation on his shoulders.

Lucas Tomlinson & Kieran Phillips wouldn’t of signed for us without Manse. Ollie Nugent wouldn’t of come on loan without his goal streak we could of been going down. We got Harvey in for Bristol City in goals last season who was decent. Plus Barkers from C********m who was decent for two/three games. Leads resigned with us potentially could of gone elsewhere.

Nugent was brought in by Mansell ( his first signing) and Chippenham paid a fee for Jordon Young.
Your last paragraph proves the point some are making about lack of contacts, reminds me of the Boris days when we were also knocking on the door of Rovers and C********m.

Phillips has been useless so far so would quite happily have done without him. Hubert started off well and then couldn't score at all although I accept we stopped creating chances. Also Mansell actually did start off pretty well and we improved, before going the other way and then ending the season not too badly. That end of the season meant I was happy to give him the summer and see what happened yet the squad looks one who could well be in a relegation battle especially if we are missing Dawson and/or McClure.

When should people be asking for him to be sacked then? A month, end of the year? Crowds are down, 2 of our 4 home performances have been disgraceful and we could easily be in a relegation scrap this year.

Dawson and McClure are clearly going to be the highest paid at the club. If we got rid of both and used the money to get cheaper players in would that improve us? Rowe didn't have any backroom staff as far as I know yet both Groves and Mansell seem to be wasting money on coaches etc. I'd rather see that money used on players. I just don't see Mansell being capable of improving us given how he has done so far and based on the players he has signed.

Jordan is from Chippenham

I'll agree that Phillips doesn't look up to it IMO.  In terms of length of time we are two points off the playoffs after 7 games. For me that's too early. If he continues to remain one win from the playoffs I certainly wouldn't be pulling the trigger.  If in 4-5 games we are 6+ points off the playoffs then I think that would be a reasonable time for conversations to be had. But it's all opinions isn't it.

RE: NLN Watch - sctippins - 08-09-2022

Kieran Phillips has just turned 20! Last year as a centre forward on loan (at the level below) scored 11 goals in 26 leagues games at Swindon S and 19 goals in 40 when you add on spell at Dorchester (in all comps)! So far he has made late substitute appearances and played on the wing! He had 29 minutes Saturday in his natural position when Matt McClure came off. Give the lad a chance….

Danny King was doing the same at Nuneaton (at the same level) and nobody saying Danny isn’t up to the job!

Where’s the positive energy and vibes. We need to back the lads now. By all means come back on here Wednesday if we don’t get two decent results in the next two games.

From what I have seen Phillips isn't up to this level and looks too light weight against the strong defences you get in the NLN. Hopefully we will pick up 6 points in the next few days.

RE: NLN Watch - Prorsum Semper - 13-09-2022

Hereford lost again, the assistant manager left last week and even the fans sitting on the fence before now seem to want a change in the hot seat.
