RE: NLN Watch - Paul - 19-04-2023

Given that we are still in contention for a playoff place, one scenario is that we could actually get promoted - if we were to win the playoffs.

A very real question is, if that were to happen, are we in a good position financially and squad-wise to deal with that?

I’d say, a very real answer is no.

We’d have good fun trying though!

I took Patrick’s pointing out that none of the 3 part time teams in the NL were likely to get relegated as an indication that he wouldn’t take us full time if we got promoted.

beyond that, I’ve nothing useful to contribute!

I doubt many teams get promoted and then don’t have to significantly improve their squad.

financially, the rewards are greater in the division above. More money from the league, more exposure, better chance of progressing in the FA Cup, higher attendances…can’t believe I have to say it but promotion isn’t all doom and gloom

Agree. I think it's also about having a manager with the nous to keep us in NL - and directors prepared to make sure that happens. If we go up we need to stay up.

RE: NLN Watch - Darran - 19-04-2023

I’m going to be brutally honest here and say if we did go up that we would more than likely finish bottom. Still if anyone was going to pull off a miracle it would be King because let’s face he’s pulled off a minor miracle so far to even get us on the brink off the playoffs.

A bit negative, though that is always the concern after promotion. How do you stay to solidify yourself as a club belonging in the league. Have listened to it about Villa since May of 2019.

Is there a financial payout for the winner of the playoffs like in the league divisions?

RE: NLN Watch - Brandman - 20-04-2023

Champions get a payment from the sponsors for winning North or South.

Those in the Play Offs have a share of the income from the matches they play in. 50% in Eliminator’s and Semi’s.
In the Promotional Final they get 25% with 50% shared between the other 21 clubs.

There's no such thing as a season too early.  Ask Huddersfield if promotion to the Premier League last season would have been a disaster?  Instead, they've spent most of this season fighting relegation to League 1.

There's no reason Gloucester couldn't get promoted and then ride the wave of optimism into the new season and actually bloody a few noses.  Treat every game like an FA Cup tie (though that may not be a good idea for Gloucester  Wink ) and build enough points for when the inevitable poor run comes in.

I'm a firm believer in taking the opportunity when it arises.  It's like having your first kid - you're never truly ready, but when the baby comes you step up and give it your best shot.  Until it happens though, you will never know what you're capable of.

RE: NLN Watch - charlie - 20-04-2023

We had absolutely no right to play at this level during the exile years. Our budget wasn’t just the lowest in the league (until Curzon came along) but some seasons we were half the going rate.
Yet we did it, we did it well, and survived.
If we get the chance of promotion we need to take it. If it results in coming straight back down then so be it. But we’ll give it a good go. We’re a city of 150,000 people, we should be a comfortable NL/League 2 club.

The past few home games we’ve been averaging over 1,000. Add more onto that playing in the NL and away attendances, we’d have a lower end average, but it likely wouldn’t be the lowest. Plus if we start doing well and FGR stutter in League 2, I don’t see there being much between us attendance wise.
