The Chambers Have Stepped Down

Having never had any contact with Patrick he did send me a couple of messages via Twitter when he stepped down and he was very confident we would stay up so even after leaving he wasn't accepting that we were going to go down. Obviously we will never know if we would have won those two games if they were still involved in the club.

You mean you didn’t tell him who to sign?

I was stunned at the open evening that Patrick and a proportion of fans were accepting relegation. There’s the negativity.  I can’t help think that it had fed through to the players that our current position and relegation were ok.  The mentality at the club has changed in the last two matches.  Those performances aren’t just because Mike Cook’s coaching is finally making a difference, it’s because it’s no longer acceptable to lose.

There’s been a lot said along the lines of “I can’t blame the Chambers for walking” but as Matt said in an earlier post Pat’s programme notes did not read like someone who was quitting. I can’t help feel that EMG and AP felt the whole mentality needed to change and took action.

Just my opinion.  I must admit I was on the fence and didn’t know what was the right thing to do, as I agree that it wasn’t perfect last season and Pat and Nicky had put some good things in place. Why not keep two people in place who were willing to work incredibly hard to put the club on a sound footing, but I think we needed the ‘circuit breaker’ to turn things
According to Cookie in a recent Glos Live article it seems it was in fact the coaching:

After consecutive winning performances, Cook labelled it down to the main source.

“It’s all part of the coaching, Andy Hoskins and Marc McGregor have got to take a huge amount of credit for that,” Cook said.

“There’s a mole. Right at the top of the circus. He’s been there for years.”
