So... we're still not very good and basically we need a chunk of financial investment and the wisdom to spend it wisely. Those results speak for themselves.

Yeah none of this is screaming sleeping giant of the lower leagues is it.  Given our location we like to think we have untapped potential, but do we really, or are we just the collective consciousness of that drunk stranger propping up the bar telling everyone "I had trials you know, I could have been someone".

League division 2 = our premiership
NL =  our championship
NLN/S = league 1
SL = league 2

If we ever got into league division 1 it would be like playing in the champions league every week. Any higher and we're playing in outer space.

Stevenage and others have shown that league 1 is doable. The journey to it would have generated lots of positive publicity and increased gates accordingly. It would attract new sponsors and partners. But there's also the ground...we'd have to find a new one or dig up the pitch. That affects the business model and especially could impact on women's and youth teams. I'm sure the new Board is well aware of the challenges and when the dust has settled on this unhappy season it would be good to see a coherent strategy emerging which plans ahead in a way that supporters, players, local businesses.can all buy into.

We could/should be a NL or L2/1 side as per the neighbours but history hasn't been kind to us. If a significant and ambitious new investor/s came in to take on both the team and ownership of the ground (plus debts... ) you would think that AP & EM would be happy to say "we've taken this as far as we could" and hand over to new owners. But as we saw with the Chambers, it's unlikely to happen. I'd imagine the Chambers were blindsided by the debt the club has, and spent half of their time trying to cope with that. 

If, as now seems likely, we go down to the SL, whilst it's fine for some people to say they'll still keep turning up every week, let's be honest, we are not going to get any new investors at that level who could take the club to where some of us believe the club should be. Nothing will have changed regarding ownership and we'll sink out of sight of the public, who'll continue to see us as not going anywhere and not worth the bother - if we've registered with them at all. The flipside is, if AP & EM walked away (which they won't ) without any new investor coming forward then the club goes into free fall. There's also the club's debt, which no one as yet can put a figure on. We just have to hope that HMRC don't come knocking. We don't have any pop star saviours coming to save us. Didn't EM have The Darkness come to play at Meadow Park years back? Perhaps give them a call, as at the moment, the name seems apt...
