Pluses from Yesterday…
#1

Obviously you can only learn so much from PSF’s, but a few things I saw yesterday have left me feeling more positive. The young keeper who played the first first half made some excellent saves and looked very assured. Appeared a very competent back up to Coley, who played the last 20 odd minutes and looked like the keeper we thought he’d be last season. Now fit, he commands, organises, and fills me with confidence.

At the other end, I think Jordan Young looked superb, and will be a big player for us this season. Great to to see JJ and JT back after ops, fit and returned to their best.

Don’t think it’s any secret we are short of a FB, an experienced CB and a big striker to lead the line, and none of our main targets were there yesterday. They don’t come cheap, but fill those gaps well and I think we’ve got the makings of a serious team.

In PG, we have a manager that doesn’t panic and bring in player after player for the sake of doing so. Quality over quantity and biding his time to get the right players who will improve us  is going to prove wise I think.

I can’t wait to go to the FoD on Wednesday, (which isn’t a phrase I ofter utter!)

Sorry Gray. Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

So what you’re saying is we’re going to win the league?

DA you are right- we have retained the nucleus of last season’s squad - all important players Dawson et al. You imply in your phrase “ none of our main targets were there” that signings have been identified which is exciting. PG is vastly experienced- looking forward and hopefully upwards.

Currently 12 first team players, another 4 needed to meet minimum League regulations, and they need to be registered within 14 days (by the end of this month). Get the fax machine ready!

At least 1xGK 1xDF 1xMF 1xFW - probably 2xDF if JT is playing in midfield.

Wouldn't be surprised if Robert has a good season, as last year starting at Gateshead thought he looked sharp and a man on a mission every time he got on, watch this space...

Agree PS we need a full season from him - such a talented play maker of which we have only seen glimpses.

Correct Dave ... they are the three positions we're in the hunt for ... We're already started the reducing numbers process following yesterday games, so we're getting there on the trialists ... Dave's in the know ... Morning Mr East Wink

Regarding the league rule of 16 by the end of July ... I wouldn't worry about that ... all the 21/23's will have squad numbers and be signed on too, so they are step up and play the county cup games ... just like the big boy clubs do ... so the first team will be numbered 1-22 and 23-41. So on paper we'll have 41 in our first team ...

Thing is Robert has never had a good full season. Even the year he scored the goals to keep us up it was only the latter stages of the season. I will be amazed if he is anymore than a bit part player this season.

A promising result though yesterday and a good start to pre season.

41!

Pleased that were actively looking to fill those three roles because if we were adding to the current nucleus from the trialists then we'd be a long way from the standard we set last year. I'm not only saying that would be disappointing from a personal point of view but also, we have the potential to impress 2000 people at the York game.
