GCAFC. On this Day.

3rd August 2019.

On this Date, a Saturday, Gloucester City AFC had there first National League North match of the season. The season was starting earlier than usual. After two seasons in the South, we were placed back in the North. It was a case of 'Welcome Back to the North' as we were given an away trip to Blyth Spartans.
Gloucester's previous visits to Croft Park have been rewarded, as we have won all our matches there.
This fixture proved to be no different as we won 2 - 1. Joe Hanks (penalty), and Marlon Jackson with the goals. Played in front of a Croft Park crowd of 834.
A good start to life back in the National League North.

25 years ago we finally got the pre-season game against Wimbledon as part of Stixy's transfer four years earlier. They sent the reserves.

6th August 1997.

On this Date, a Thursday night I think it was, we played a Chelsea XI at Meadow Park. This preseason fixture was played in front of a crowd of 1300.
We drew the game 2 - 2, both teams wore away strips. Gloucester City wore an Umbro (I think it was) Red/White Ajax Amsterdam style shirt, while Chelsea wore an Umbro yellow away shirt. I think there shirt sponsor was 'Autoglass'.
The Chelsea XI team had the Late David Rocastle playing for them, and a young John Terry was in the squad.
At the time, I was working in Ross-on-Wye. This particular week, I was working on the Night Shift. I think I left a few minutes before the end of the match, to avoid the traffic to get to Ross.

Talking of an Ajax style kit, I reckon it would look brilliant with our colours.

Let’s see a mock up then, Mediaman. Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

I can't ever remember going to the Chelsea game.

Looking through the old fixtures that appears to have been the last of the decent friendlies. By 2016 we were playing league games on this date.
