Southern League Watch - Paul - 17-02-2024

Facing reality and given that barring an unforeseen miracle City are heading back to the SL (South or Central?) what should be the priorities and aims of the club? Eg:

What are the chances of bouncing back in one season? 
Is it likely given the input and reduced financial outlay from the owners this season? 
Does it need a complete change of ownership and hierarchy at the top for the club to where some supporters think we should be?
How is that achieved? 
Do we accept SL is our level? 
If we're contesting at the top our likely rivals? 
Size of attendances? 
Etc, etc, etc. 

Looking forward to mixing it up with the big boys of Hamlet FC next season...

I think we should stick with Cook and let him build a team to get us back up. He knows what we’ve got and what’s going to be available locally. Get the best local talent (heard that somewhere before) and see if we can pick off some of the fringe players that FGR will inevitably release.

In all seriouseness though would we be able to attract the better players from around the área? I assume we would be considered one of the bigger teams.
I am not to clued Up on what happens below NL level.

SLP is no push over, some clubs have money and players will drop down a level if the money is right, that's tge problem.
Having said that relegation doesn't have to be all doom and gloom, Altrincham,Tamworth, went down and came up stronger.
The problem of course is will we have financial support to bounce back and currently that I doubt unless a new backer comes in.
Key will be winning early on and getting gates of 1000 at home, not many get close to that in the SLP.
I'm sure stability with a manager and 5 or 6 of the better players staying on at a lower level. It may take 3 or 4 seasons to rebuild however as Weston,Weymouth found in the SLPS found, Weston seem to be settling in to a comfortable mid table, with a very good manager.....

Assuming the current people in charge of the club's finances will be in charge next season, will they have the funds available to push for promotion? - or will we have to be content to remain an SL club until there is all change at the top? Which seems unlikely any time soon.

I'd agree it's vital that MC remains as manager - that is if he still wants the job.

Probably wise to start looking at where we might go. Here is a link to predictions and it has us going into the South. I would add plenty of caution over this though because clearly who goes up and down is open to a lot of change and they could decide to move a club like Hendon back to the Isthmian and stick us into the Central instead. As we know the FA can make some interesting decisions.

If it happens…

I think the South would be “easier”, but the Central looks like it holds better away days, especially if Telford stay down. Be interesting to see how we cope with a bit of expectation, being one of the bigger, better supported sides, after 15 years of being the small fish (barring one season)
