A week to week contract is all he could be trusted with, then if he does a runner he would not cost much!

As ODG put in the Southport thread it’s a gamble or words to that effect with only a previous playing history to go on BUT in order to get them to sign most want the financial security that a decent contract brings. If it doesn’t work out you are lumbered.

If you were an employer you wouldn't take a workman on without a trial period that would be asking for trouble and no one would expect a contract until they prove they are capable of doing the job.
