Nowadays no-one comes to Gloucester.

In the '80s, the leisure centre regularly hosted gigs. Week after week there would be the likes of ( depending on what sort of music you were into ) New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Smiths (twice), Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Stranglers, Gary Numan, The Pixies, Culture Club, Tina Turner, Tears for Fears, the Thompson Twins, Half Man Half Biscuit, Dire Straits, Duran Duran, Thin Lizzy, Madness, Ultravox etc, etc. Unfortunately , it also meant we saw Gary Glitter. Support band was Girlschool...........

We had tickets to see Glenn Campbell there, but his show was cancelled 

Also been to that other place in the extension to Worcester Street to see Elton John and Lionel Richie.

Various other venues including the one in Cardiff where they also use the wrong shape ball to see Neil Diamond.

Those who know me well will be aware that we used to go to Vegas every year until the pandemic. There we've seen Elton John, Cher, Neil Sedaka, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, The Moody Blues and Shania Twain.

When they announce these gigs have a look at where else they're playing too. The list usually includes Brockway, Ogdenville and North Haverbrook.

Yeah that one's an absolute belter.

Yes from Bath, but I don't blame them for it. They've not aged well physically, but they can still write good songs and perform them adequately.

I remember gigs at the Leisure Centre in the 90s - I saw Sleeper for one. More so at the Guildhall where seen Supergrass, Supernaturals in the 90s and a few years ago saw Space in front of an embarrassingly low crowd - a few dozen - although it was just before Christmas. Spoke with Tommy Scott afterwards and he wasn't at all bothered, just enjoyed still playing together.

The wonderfully named Seasick Steve has a gig coming up in Gloucester. One of his songs includes the great lyrics "I started with nothing and I've got most of it left ". Brilliant.

Others I saw back in the day at the Leisure Centre include The Beat (who were superb Strawberry Switchblade were one of the support bands) and the truly wonderful Everything But The Girl. I remember seeing Shakatack too. Lot of those names mentioned earlier bring back happy 80's memories. Remember watching Lenny Henry, Harry Hill (with the badgers parade) and Ben Elton

I'm sure I was told once that The Beatles played the old cinema once but even I am not that old.

In more recent times the standout for me was a double header at the O2 in Bristol with The Shires and the immensely talented and wonderful Ward Thomas. That was a good evening. Watching The Shires play inside Chepstow Castle was memorable too

The late, great Eartha Kitt (no Cockney slang) once played at Whitcombe Lodge in Brockworth  - probably a slight comedown after Las Vegas, but on finishing her set felt peckish, so a local taxi driver took her to Ruddy's fish & chips in Hucclecote. They did. At the Regal cinema (Wetherspoons) on 18 March 1963. I'm annoyed my parents didn't take me there in my pram to see them.
