Statement from AP

The more immediate question is who are the players that will be missing on Saturday.  If for example we managed to shed the wages of Hooper, Sion and *ahem* Dawson then the season is ultimately unaffected.  However, given the injuries and contract situation I think we can all agree that is unlikely.  For the same reasons we are also unlikely to be seeing those on contract go as you'd have to pay them off.  So who are we actually going to lose, are there players on non-contract terms.  Don't recall seeing any announcements at the the about Jacob or Junior being put on contract so are those two prime for the chop?

Dawson and Hooper are two of the very few who are on contract, so I can’t imagine it’ll be them!

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

Without ambition to progress, what’s the point in taking part?

My preference is for sustainable improvement rather than boom and bust.

Look we all know how loyal you are to Alex and that you dislike King and that’s fair enough but King is the best possible manager we could have and we have thrown away the opportunity to use him to the best effect. Instead we get a budget cut (and yes I’m still calling this a budget cut as I believe it is) and will end up with Hungerfords manager next season. That’s a huge downgrade and will send out all the wrong signals to fans who we want to come and support the club.

I don't think anybody is saying we want boom and bust - that would be reminiscent of the Gardner era. I think most people want a demonstration of ambition to match the size of the city they live in. We are not a village team.

the size of the City is irrelevant, the people turning up and supporting the club is more relevant (in relation to wages). Currently we are unsupportable and therefore need a benefactor. The most recent of whom, like so many others, didnt have bottomless pockets. Absent this we are back to boom and bust.

The population size is relevant - it's where  99% of the people supporting the club will come from. I know there is talk of improving facilities and the matchday experience - that's fine, but unless we get a successful team on the pitch then the support won't grow - and that support will come from the fickle people of Gloucester who have shown they will come when the team are doing well. We're not going to get support from neighbouring towns and areas. I'd also add that as well as success on the pitch, we also need a proper 'football in the community' programme working in city schools and areas of deprivation to raise the club's profile within the city.

This is every football club though, it takes money. I doubt many get promoted on the strength of the crowds alone.

It's happened again

Steve King has overspent and plunged the club into financial difficulty and risked the long term future of the club

What did I tell you.

More so than ever probably, because there are always one or two clubs every year "rolling the dice" as it were.  If we are going to do it sustainably you'd have to think it would be a case of scrape into the playoffs and go up that way e.g. similar to this year but with less money.

That said I don't think I'd criticise anyone for not wanting to fund it, I wouldn't be putting that much money at risk personally to try and get a football team promoted.  If anything the issue here is we got the PG appointment wrong, and have effectively wasted the money AP was willing to put in (AP obviously takes his fair share there as he appointed PG in the first place).  That first season back was probably our roll of the dice and we came up way short.
