Football Manager

Anyone else play as Gloucester City on football manager, especially the 2020 version?

It used to be a hell of a slog but with McClure, Mensah, Daly, Hanks and Jeacock in the team it's actually enjoyable now.

First season I've finished 5th and won the play offs and won the FA Trophy beating Notts County in the final. Beat Dag & Red in quarters as well which was satisfying.

I started a new save at the start of lockdown with our squad at the time but being back at MP (I've got the Editor's).

First season finished 3rd, beat Hereford at a sold out MP in the play-offs then lost away at Altrincham. Got knocked out of the FA Cup by Bristol Rovers.

Second season moved to the south, got to the FA Cup Second Round, won the league by two points and runners-up in the FA Trophy. Signed Matty Longstaff on a free from Newcastle then sold him 12 months later to Leicester for £100k up front, up to £150k in add-ons and 20% sell-on.

Just started my third season with a very healthy budget, managed to make some decent signings too.

Wollacott; K Thomas, R Cundy, H Flowers, J Senior; got about 4/5 midfielders I rotate around including Hanks and Fabs; E Williams, C Washington and B Mensah

Got Ricco as my assistant and Rosey as a coach. It's great fun playing as City now compared to 5/6 years ago.

Signing players that we know is very Gloucester City

I've just re-signed Noah Smerdon, no reason other than sentiment.

I've never played the more modern versions properly. You have to get technical with training don't you?

I just cheat and sell my reserves to Chelsea for £20M each.

You can get your assistant to sort the training out

Speak for yourself. I binned off most of the current crop in the first 3 seasons. I'm now mid-table in the Championship in 2027-28. The last original player to leave was Jack Senior in League 1, and Karl Bayliss only recently got replaced has chief scout!

I am on the mobile version which I understand is simpler and easier. Neil - it'd probably suit your needs. Only real duties are signing players and picking the team.

I love this game but I’m also terrible at it!

I’ve just downloaded an edit where somebody has added all of the leagues and teams down to Step 10.

I’m currently managing Newent Town!

Thought I'd resurrect this thread for FM21.

Finished 3rd in my first season (big changes after a poor start) and lost on penalties to Chester in the play-off final, although won the FA Trophy.

2nd season and I've been moved to the south, had some big changes to my team and 18 games in I've won 14 and scored 50! Also got Leicester in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Transfer wise, I've signed Harry Flowers (Brackley), Jordan McEneff (Arsenal), James Ball (Solihull), Josh Smile (Maidenhead), Will Russ (Leicester), Scott Duxbury (Boston), Charlie Seaman (Doncaster, loan), Dom Bernard (FGR), James Hardy (Telford), Ollie Sims (Colchester, loan), Sean Graham (Coventry, loan), Zach Jeacock (Birmingham) and Alex Kirk (Arsenal).

1st XI (4-3-3) is Jeacock; Bernard, Kirk, Jones, Duxbury; Ball, Dawson, McEneff; Mensah, Hardy, Russ.

It's easy being a manager.  Big Grin

What stadium are we in?

Meadow Park and I'm getting in crowds of ~ 1,600 at the moment. I've asked Alex to expand the stadium and he said no! Fuming.
