Don't pay taxes on  wages anymore?  been retired for over 20 odd years now ,they get us by putting  18 percent on everything else we buy . Still can't complain , spent 3 long periods in hospital in the last 2 years and that's  where a lot of our taxes go in the UK . Even though our heath service is under huge pressure most of the time I'm very happy to have it here . Really glad we don't have to take out private insurance like US citizens .

True, I guess. There are some benefits to private health care, but I use the VA system. It is not privatized.
