Another poor result, with as others have said, a goal conceded whilst we were still in the changing room or looking forwards to going off at the end of the match. Probably a combination of not being fully match fit and poor concentration due to tiredness

If you take the points we've dropped due to goals conceded in the final ten minutes of games so far this season - EIGHT! Those points would have put us in fourteenth with a GD of -2. There was also another game where we dropped another two points from a leading position to a 73rd minute penalty - they would have moved us up to tenth with a GD of -1.

We're currently 22nd, four points behind 21st and seven points from safety. Our GD is better than the two teams below and the two teams above us, so if we can catch them in points we'd overtake them.

At the risk of being pedantic, 6 points would currently move us out of the RZ.

We’ve a long time to do it, and the teams around us are consistently losing too, so I don’t think it would take a mammoth run of wins to escape.
We need to average at least 0.2 more points a game than the sides around us to escape.

Almost sounds easy! Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

I didn't want to complicate things with 'what if' goal differences - the extra point would make certain.

The main point was that the late goals conceded have really cost us a lot of points so far this season.

If only the teams 4 teams directly above us were consistently losing.
Kings lynn - 2 wins and a draw in the last 5
Southport - 2 wins (1 v us) and 3 losses in the last 5
Farlsey - 1 win 1 draw 3 losses
Peterborough - 3 wins 1 draw 1 loss last 5

They’re picking up lots of points, and crucially, more than us.

We got better as the game went on but it wasn't enough. Starting to lose ground now Sad

Bless you Dave, we can keep doing calculations like that until it’s mathematically impossible for us to stay up, but it’s not as simple as suddenly just start winning. Look at our next few fixtures. It’s not panic stations just yet, but we could be 10-12 points off safety after we’ve played Scunny, Brackley and Chester. MC needs backing, young players on freebie loans will not fix this.  Dishing out 2 year contracts is backfiring as MC has very little wiggle room.  But with a chairman burying his head in the sand because we played a good team (we actually didn’t) we are talking ourselves towards relegation sadly.

My exact point was that we don’t need to suddenly start winning, just steadily pick up points at a marginally higher rate than others. I’m not saying we’ll do it, just that that’s what we have to do. I think in Mike Cook we have someone who is capable of tweaking things to give us a chance. Bottom line, we have very little option.

Cook setting us up not to lose again and we create sod all as a consequence. That tactic worked in the south and it helped we had someone who could score wonder goals but we don’t have that now. Peterborough beat Workington today and we need to do the same next week
