As much as I'd like to see eleven players like him in the team, he's clearly a good, experienced defender, we've still been conceding goals far too often with him in the side. No doubt we can put someone in there who'll still concede goals but on half as much money Wink
I feel a bit frustrated with criticisms of our defence this season (not singling you out here Neil btw).

Considering we haven’t had a proper defensive midfielder all season, and the fact that our attack has been so poor for most of it, meaning so much of the action has been in our half every game, I think it’s pretty remarkable how well that unit has done.  It’s the only part of our team I can imagine other teams in the division wanting any of our players from.

We've got Smile and McGrory who play DCM, but Smile is still coming back from his ACL injury and McGrory has been covering at RB as well having a spell out injured himself.

Feels like a trimming of the budget in preparation for life in the Southern League.

I'm never sure why there needs to be defensive midfielders at all. Midfielders should have everything in their lockers, the ability to attack and the ability to defend. If they can only do one or the other then they're either an attacker or a defender and not a midfielder. The simple way is have two central midfielders, one goes up field the other stays back.

That's how Mr Levitt used to run our school team at St James'. It worked for us. It didn't end well for him mind Wink

And the one who stays back is the defensive midfielder?

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

Reinforces my point really as Smile has only recently joined and been barely available, and MC himself says LM is a right back rather than an mf

Yes, but he's also the attacking midfielder when his partner stays back. It seems to me that a defensive midfielder is a midfielder who is a bit **** going forward.
