Random football questions thread

Thought I would start a thread with questions you've always wondered about football with the hope that someone may be able to help with the answers!

My first two questions are:

- Why do goalkeepers always come out for the pre-match warm-ups first and go back to the changing rooms before the rest of the team?

- Why do players now seem to cut holes in the back of their socks?

I can help on the second question! It’s a mixture of comfort and reducing cramp as they’re very tight.

Also, in conjunction with cutting them in half to go with grip socks the bane of grassroots football clubs, the amount of socks you go through now is ridiculous!

Football socks don't have feet in them. Is that what you meant?

They used to come with foot, but A LOT of players used to cut them off as they wear grip socks so just used as socks as sort of leg warmers. A few seasons ago, we started gutting only "Cuts", ie socks without feet (legwarmers!) which saved the players doing it. This caused much consternation for the legends game, when all the old players turned up, half of them in sliders with no socks on, to be given kits to play in with footless socks! Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.
