The club didn't want anything to do with them did they?

Nothing but house's will be put on that land it must be worth millions to big developers and the council.
Not owned by the council, and in theory protected by a covenant regarding use. Mind you not that covenants can't be broken, just ask gloucester civil service cricket club.

On the contrary, they were offered the stadium to use and to be supplied the new kit, but refused. So a new team was set up

A look at the press release issued by the, now City of Gloucester WFC, at the time of what they termed the 'Club Rebrand' makes it very clear that they were founded under the name of City of Gloucester but adopted the name Gloucester City in 1997 but were run independently to Gloucester City FC throughout it's history. At an AGM they voted to retain their independence and so changed the name back to City of Gloucester.

As for Gloucester City - our ladies and girls set up continues to thrive. For those who don't know (and I realise not everyone on here will be a fan of the Ladies game) apart from the 1st and Dev teams we have a number of girls (so U16 and below) teams competing in the Glos County Girls leagues. We've some really exciting matches coming up at the Tiger Turf, not least a County Cup semi final against C********m Town reserves. I'm sure there will be more about this on social media in the run up to the match but one to keep an eye out for I'd suggest. The future is looking bright.

Are the current Womens Team anything to do with that company?

The point I’m making is unless you come under the same constitutional framework then really the name and colours/crest are the only thing tying a team to this club.
