Women's matches Sunday
#11

Oddly enough the WFA Cup game two weeks ago, MA Plymouth are a league above and the boot was on the other foot, City struggled to make any meaningful attacks the way that both opponents have since.

Here are todays goals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOPIOgi9IC4

It honestly looks like their keeper has never played in goal before.

I'm a massive advocate that women should play in 3 quarter-sized goals (the type used at under 13 level - 7ft x 21ft).

The average height of a male in the UK is 5'9 whereas the average height of a female is 5'3. It stands to reason that, regardless of how talented a female goalkeeper is, they're likely to be hindered by the size of the goal behind them.

Also, attempting to move in the general direction of the ball would have helped her chances in this case I think. Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

Some insensitive comments here about a young grassroots player who may very well be a minor.  I've not watched the clips but was at the game and also saw the saves she made in the 1st half which were first class.

Unlike you I spoke several times to the player and her parent / coach during what must have been a difficult afternoon for her and her team mates.  I sense a young player whose had better matches but who is determined and resilient and who deserves encouragement and not the negativity on here posted by some.  She'll be back better and stronger, of that I have no doubt.

From me it's congratulations to the City squad for a job well done on Sunday and I've no doubt at all St Vallier will bounce back and will soon be winning again and working their way up the league.

The crossbar height was set in the 19th century when men had an average height of 5ft 5. Maybe the men should play in bigger goals these days?

I also think making the goals smaller is a good idea. The key component of what makes football the exciting sport it is, is the fact that it's a low scoring sport. I don't think making goals bigger in the men's game is a good idea, otherwise we'll get ludicrous scores like 11-1 on a regular basis like the women's.

Finished 11-1 BTW.

Must've been quite the language used for the red card given the referee has a high threshold

"No Fucking Way".

It's Stuart Lane, I've seen him send a player off before in a game against one of the UDA mens teams. It was the opposition centre-forward and it made no difference as they went on to win heavily with ten men. Yesterday made no difference to the result either!

Always know with Stu, keep it zipped!

Sometimes they end up with reluctant goalkeepers, it might be the case there too. She made a few saves but looking at the goals she wasn't ever really on her toes for a few of them.

Just for the record, Corsham Town who we beat 10-0 last week won 5-1 yesterday. 11-1 is only ludicrous because City are good Wink
