Women's matches Sunday

Regarding commenting on players, I see no issue as long as it’s based on ability.

This is the GCAFC Open forum, so if someone posts highlights of an Adults City game, I personally think people have every right to comment on players ability and performance as long as it’s not personal.

Just my view.

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

I never said otherwise.  Likewise I've every right to comment on posts I do not agree with.

Next time the men are away at Chorley we can ask for a smaller goal.

As I said, height of the crossbar was fixed at a time when the average male was much shorter, it is what it is for both men's and women's so any talk of changing it for an adults game of either gender is just nonsense, let's be honest.

The issue is more the quality of the opposition - as Neil said we've really stepped it up in the last couple games. We've been lucky to have some really quality keepers at City, including Sam Linteo this year and Ashli last year, and it makes a real difference. Anecdotally from speaking to youth coaches (not GCAFC ones), I've heard there's a bit of a lack of keepers for girls teams, and it is a lot more difficult for girls who start playing later to pick up keeper skills as opposed to outfield skills. Shandy probably has a bit more insight than me.

Maybe time for it’s own sub-forum?

Agreed with a lot of this, and it's got to be recognised that the Women's game has suffered from decades and decades of a lack of coverage/interest and investment so we shouldn't be surprised when the strength in depth or quality in specialist positions just isn't there.  What you want at all levels of football is competition, I'd much rather watch two awful teams play out a 3-3 than one very good team hand out a drubbing.

Couple the lack of investment with idiots like Joey Barton who seem intent on mocking female footballers at any given opportunity and its hardly surprising a lot of girls choose to do something else.  It all becomes a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy.

At the moment they can only beat what's in front of them. They're top of the table, but they've got some difficult fixtures ahead, including another match against Cirencester Town who they only narrowly beat 2-1 previously. Hopefully if promotion is on the cards towards the end of the season we can get a few more supporters along. The likes of Torquay and FGR are at the level above, and it's another step up in quality, but I'm sure we could hold our own if we went up (something I couldn't say for the men's side).

It was the third goal which looked especially bad as she didn’t seem to know what she was doing. Having said that at least she was born a female unlike the keeper I saw last season and who is now at Sutton. You see it at youth level as well that kids don’t want to go in goal. Ultimately if a men’s keeper had a nightmare we would all be talking about that so a women’s keeper has to be fair game.

Would be sexist to do otherwise imo, Mr Pearce.

Does he? I thought he was more anti the mass involvement of women pundits on the mens game?

I can only recall him mocking the commentary on some womens clips where they over egg some of the descriptions saying it was a rocket shot when the ball trickles in Wink
