Hungerford Away
#31

A very poor performance in front of a very good number of travelling supporters. I counted 120 (ish) in the second half in the stand plus about 20 others dotted around, a tremendous effort and a very loud, well behaved contingent at that.

The pitch was pretty standard for the league, but if you’re going to play route one on it then you don’t play KP up against a 6ft 6 centre back. It’s not his game.

When we did try to pass it around things never got going.

We were completely out fought by a team who were up for it, and didn’t learn to cope with their physicality, which went way too far and was never stoped by a hopelessly poor referee.

It was also very disappointing to see 6/7 of their players run towards the away fans at FT to start goading. A complete embarrassment from them. They had to run through our players who just stood there watching. Still, good to see how much it meant to Hungerford to win it, very weak mentality.

On a separate note, what’s happened to that £500 the players raised to fund travel for the fans? That was 9 away matches ago and there’s only 3 left?

Interesting comment re physicality. Unable to deal with that was part of the reason for our demise last season in the NLN. From what I have seen over the years the teams from the south are a lot less physical-even when we in the NLS- so let’s hope if we do go up we get put there.

By physicality, there’s been strong (which was our issue last year) and there’s elbowing Joe Hanks in the face 5 minutes in and not getting booked.

Hungerford were the latter. All day. And didn’t get pulled up on it.

See, doesn't make a different does it.

I could've gone yesterday but didn't fancy it because I knew we wouldn't perform. I can't have been the only one who thought it would be the same old story.

Are some of our aged 30+ players beginning to tire or have teams now sussed the way we play and set up to prevent us from doing so.
Some players who were on the top of their game for the first 15-20 games haven’t really been performing and we have looked at best mediocre.

Whatever happens this season there will be a need to bring in some fresh faces and should we go up I’m struggling to think of more than a couple good enough for step 2.

The buck stops with the manager. If he fails to get us promoted this season we have to start afresh.

Awful performance yesterday. Ridiculous the way Hungerford players celebrated yesterday. The number 12 was a disgrace the way he ran over . I don’t care if he was giving “ banter” back. That was not banter.

I never said pitches aren’t going to be awful but that Hungerford pitch is really bad. It’s a massive slope and is uneven all over pitch as well. One of the reasons I highlight it though is because we have had issues with grass pitches all season because we are used to passing it around on a 3G pitch.

Should we do some of our training on a bobbly grass field?

Possibly. I think its more our game is set up based around our 3G pitch and we have no plan b. Cook has always set his teams up not to lose and that will get you into the play-offs, what it doesn't get you is a title. We have drawn half of our away games, won 6 and lost 3 scoring 25 and conceding 25 and that is the issue.

Did anyone get a programme at the game that they don't any longer want?

I didn't manage to get any, and Trev is on the hunt for four.

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

Well in an attempt to add a bit of positivity to everyone's day.

So with the exception of Totton(who's pitch is almost like a carpet)the other 2 sides destined for the playoffs along side us are all 3G pitches.

So we should find it easier in the playoffs  Smile

That is very true. I reckon Hungerford might sneak in as didn't quite realise how close they were getting although chances are we would finish above them anyway so wouldn't have to go back.
