Legends Game
#1

Just popping this on here for info, unfortunately the Premier League Legends game has been cancelled due to low ticket sales.

If you bought a ticket you will receive a refund in due course.

That's a shame for the club.

Must admit not something I was vaguely interested in attending.

That is a shame, pretty good line up for the Prem Legends.

It was never a good idea being mixed rather than one club, the Man Utd thing was a good idea even though many would've felt they had the wool pulled over their eyes by the lack of actual legends. It was suggested that Tottenham legends were next up, shame that it wasn't that.

Shame it's been cancelled for those who wanted to go but was of no interest to me.

Like that the club are trying to expand their offerings but the term Legend appears to be stretched these days.

Agree its good for the club to try and expand their offering, maximise revenues etc.  That said never massively convinced these things work all that well in season, particularly at this time of year, there is a lot of football on at this point of year, and a lot of football that objectively matters more than this, I think it will fall down the list of priorities for many fans regardless of their team.  You are also slightly in the lap of the gods with weather at this time.

June/July time when there is less football on and the weather is good just seems a much better fit for this kind of thing to me.

Also saw some kick back on Social Media about Matt Le Tissier being involved.  Found it a little odd, as I don't think his political views (however odd I personally find them) has anything to do with his exploits at Southampton, and whilst I'd never pay money to listen to him espouse his brand of conspiracy theories, I would have definitely paid to watch him play football in his prime, and there is no doubt he is a premier league legend.  I guess it's a sign of the times we live in that this kind of thing probably needs to be taken into account when marketing/advertising these kind of games.

Pretty much agree with all of the above. I know a few who were disappointed by the lack of "legends" at the Man Utd one - it's one thing to not expect the class of 92 to rock up, but it's another thing when you've got other players turning up who were nothing to do with the actual club. In theory broadening the approach to "Premier League" legends fixes that but like Neil I think it actually has the opposite effect, people just won't care enough.

Like RJS says if you stick these events in pre-season or perhaps early season when the weather is still good I reckon you get a few more punters in, though to be honest I wouldn't have been one of them anyway. Just doesn't interest me, the whole legends/pundits/analysts/etc gravy train I could never be arsed with anyway.

Hopefully better luck next time, if the club earns a decent wedge from it then that's obviously good.

Don’t disagree with any of the above posts

The Man Utd legends game was decent, but the main enjoyment was seeing the former City players, not Russell Beardsmore. Good to diversify so not a grumble from me.

I think a decent home pre-season offering would be good (and frankly overdue) - Villa U21s or U23s or similar? Coventry XI? Quite difficult to get a decent crowd down for a psf against Coalville or Hungerford, sad but true.

I remember that traditionally a club played a PSF against much higher opposition to renew interest after the summer break and hope that some of those attracted by the bigger name might follow us. Yes. It would be nice to have a Premiership team with some known internationals in it but many would not come for not come for nothing and if expenses are high you could lose money and you wouldn’t want to be charging high prices to get in.
I wonder if Sarah Gordon-Jones ( a board member ) with her huge media knowledge and contacts could pull a few strings.
