Read MC’s interview in today’s NLP and see what you make of it. Can we afford to go up.
Can you give a bullet point summary?

we were in the next league up for 15 years and managed somehow, seems defeatist to say we can’t.

I think if we could survive nigh on two decades without our own ground, having to fork out rent to other clubs to use theirs and having no income whatsoever from our own facilities, we should be able to survive now given we can and do rent out MP for all sorts of things, can keep our gate receipts all to ourselves, and have a steadily growing number of fans coming through the turnstiles. We may not be the wealthiest club in Non-League, but surely we're in a better position than we have been for a long time all things considered.

The headline is “ Cook fears premature promotion for tigers “

You have to appreciate that this is a journalists entry.

1. The club was in desperate need financially when we came in and it’s still is.

2. Unable to extend loan players stays owing to registration embargo- normally imo means loan fees haven’t been paid.

3. We need more board members to bring more money in.

4. We still want to go up .. get things in place to make the club more secure financially will stop that feeling of swimming against the tide”

I think the main issue is Alex and the debts he left behind.

Fair point. Still, I think we'll be able to survive should we go up again. We probably won't be challenging for the play-off's and I foresee us having concreted 15th place for a few years. We've always been one of the more impoverished clubs anyway.

I'm not saying we would come straight back down, but I think it would be tough. The amount of money needed to budget wise goes up again. It's tricky because obviously no one is going to turn down promotion and you deal with what happens, but if we do lose tomorrow I don't think it will be a disaster.

Maybe not a disaster but this league is pants and full of teams that sound like some random village I've never heard of. At least in the North/South you get some proper clubs in the mix.

Only on a Gloucester City chat could we be on the eve of one of the biggest games in our history and everyone is fretting about what problems we could face if we win it.

Can’t we just try and enjoy it, and if we are fortunate enough to gain promotion, cross that bridge when we come to it?! Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.
