Women - First ever league match!

Our plan is to try and go home and away. Whether circumstances will allow us to get to all the games time will tell, but we'll give it a go. My teenage daughter in particular is enjoying watching the team; her first experience of 'supporting' a side.

I bit of a disjointed display played on a very hot afternoon, finished 0-2 to Longwell Green. Was told that the Bristol team are favourites.

An own goal and a killer in the dying minutes saw City off.

What I saw of it we more than held our own, but their defence was better than I’ve seen us come up against. I heard their coach telling them not to let the ball bounce from goal kicks and to their credit they didn’t

A tough afternoon. I thought it took us a while to grow into the game which, given that it was the first competitive fixture for the club, was not a great surprise and goodness was it hot! Second half in particular we took the game to our opponents, created chances, stung the keepers hands with a real pile driver and scrapped & battled for every ball. The second goal was very nearly the last kick of the game. We didn't deserve that

Over the last week's we have seen the team grow and steadily improve game on game. We now know what this league is all about and I'm sure Chris and the players will have learnt much about the challenge ahead. Yes, it's a disappointing result, but the ladies gave it a real go and with that determination and the knowledge gained, I am sure we'll make our mark on this competition. Sat here and already looking forward to next week. Beaten but heads held high.

I thought we were very unlucky to lose, and 2-0 was very cruel. The vital difference was a couple of saves their excellent keeper made in each half and a number of wasteful final balls having carved out excellent chances. Longwell Green were gifted an undeserved og just before half time and in the last couple of minutes they doubled their lead with great efficiency but otherwise offered little threat City has come on tremendously compared with the one I saw in a couple of early friendlies and will do well. Just need a bit of composure in attack. Come on City!

Thought they were really unlucky to come out of that game with nothing, think they were the better team for large portions of the match, but Longwell were just more clinical with their chances.

Longwell Green are favourites for that league and like others thought we should have got something from it … last goal was very late in the game after we should have levelled at the other end. Very warm that and four water breaks … but I think that was just for the ref as he wasn’t in the best of shape Smile

Elsewhere in the league there were wins for Cotswold Rangers over Longlevens and a big win for Olveston over Bishops Cleeve. The result of the other match has not been posted up. In a different layer of the pyramid our opponents next week in the Cup lost their opening fixture.
