GCAFC vs Bradford PA - 9th Oct 2021
#41

There were reasons to be optimistic after Saturdays performance against Bradford Park Avenue. We seemed to play more as a team rather than a bunch of individuals. We created numerous chances, it was a case that we seemed to do everything but score.
Ben Nugent looked assured in the defence. He is the sort of experienced defender that we have been crying out for.
It was a surprise before kick off, when it was announced that City had signed Dejon Noel Williams. I thought he made a good strike partnership with Jake Jackson, when he was last with us on Loan. Hopefully a Noel Williams / McClure strike partnership can put away some of the chances that we created against Bradford.
Overall, it was a good team performance. We got a clean sheet and a point, this is something to build on in the upcoming games.
Well Done Lee Mansell and his team.

Andrew Adebowale, Hannah, Hoskins, Kirkup, Mainwaring, Tucker, Wollen.
 Danny ANDREW, Jake ANDREWS.

I asked one question but didn't word it right, I wanted to infer that PG was trying to built a team of ex-U23's and play the ball on the deck with them. We struggled to get across the half way line. Signing 27 years and mixing it up is how to play in this league. We were much more of a force yesterday.

Thought it was a much improved performance. Don’t think any player had a bad game, and the game plan felt simple, and allowed the players to express themselves more when the opportunity was there.

Thought the first half was quite boring, but then the second half we had spells of genuine control, it was just one of those days we couldn’t score.

For the first time in god knows how long our defence was great, each of them had a brilliant game and Nuggent seems like a quality player and leader. We can’t lose if we don’t concede! Attacks win games, defences win titles.

Also enjoyed listening to the interview. We can worry about our attacking play over the next couple of weeks, but they’ve already improved the defence, brought in some exciting players (I’m very happy about Dejon, good signing announcement IMO (laughing emoji that won’t show on my phone)) and there’s genuine improvement across the board in recent weeks.

It’s a process, but the initial building blocks are looking good.

I was sat in the 1883 stand and a couple of C********m players - Sean Long & Charlie Raglan were sat behind me second half. They were very complimentary about our play and thought that the only thing missing was a striker to put the ball in the net. Think they were there to support Dawson and Sheaf, nice to see them coming over to NMP when C********m didn't have a game.

Although at one point an old boy a few rows in front of them turned and said "I think I recognise you guys, are you professional cricketers???"

Hi Woody

Sean and Charlie come to most our games when fixtures don’t clash. Really top blokes, Sean especially, he even helped me with the final round of trails in the Academy selection process.
